Auto maker Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has reported 67.4% growth in its domestic monthly sales at 28 , 988 units in January 2010. The company had sold 17 , 320 units in the same period last year.

"We have good products and we have also been helped by a good environment such as lower interest rates and excise and good liquidity , " said Pawan Goenka , President , Automotive Sector , M&M. According to Pawan , the company witnessed good growth in all segments of three-wheelers , light commercial vehicles , and the newly launched mini truck Gio.

M&M sold 20 , 332 units of its utility vehicles in January , a growth of 51.8%. The company sold 7 , 300 units of its three-wheelers , including Gio and Maxximo. It is a growth of 159% compared to sales of 2 , 823 units in the same month last year.

Two-wheeler maker Hero Honda has posted 23.57% growth in its sales at 3 , 89 , 802 units in January 2010. The company had sold 3 , 15 , 458 units of its vehicles in January 2009.

"Our sales numbers for January provide an excellent start to the calendar year , 2010. The sales growth we have achieved is significant in light of the high base that we created in the same period last year , " said Anil Dua , Senior Vice President (Marketing & Sales) , Hero Honda Motors.

Auto maker Volvo has launched its sedan S80 in India. The car is equipped with a twin-turbo diesel engine that delivers 205 Hp and 420 Nm torque.

Volvo S80 will offer a mileage of 13.1 kmpl. The car will be priced at Rs 37 lakh (ex-showroom , New Delhi).

Tata Motors has posted 77.30% sales growth at 65 , 478 units in January 2010. The company sold 36 , 931 units in the same period last year.

Tata Motors sold 26 , 245 units of its passenger vehicles in the domestic market , a growth of 43.17%. The company had sold 18 , 331 units in January 2009. The company exported 3 , 276 units in January 2010 , compared to 1 , 227 units in the same period last year. The company sold 4 , 001 units of its small car Nano in the period. Sales of Indica cars were at 11 , 448 units , while Indigo cars were sold in 7 , 258 units.

Luxury car maker Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd is planning to launch its cars in India. As of now the company is planning about what car models to introduce in the market. It is also looking for potential dealers in the country.

Currently , luxury car makers are having good times in India. BMW India has posted 28% sales growth in this fiscal year to 2 , 627 units. Audi India also recorded 61% sales growth at 977 units. Keeping in view the fast growing auto market of India , even high-end bike makers like Harley-Davidson and Ducati have entered India.
